A five-dish Thanksgiving plan
Thanksgiving Cooking Schedule: Build a Minute-by-Minute Oven Plan
Dinner is at 5:00 PM. One turkey and four sides need the same oven, and the rolls still have to arrive hot. Here is the complete timeline OvenLineup builds when the oven fits three pans and needs 15 minutes to change temperature.
Build my free oven scheduleThe menu and the deadline
This example uses a 3-hour-30-minute turkey at 325°F, then stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and rolls at 350°F. The turkey may finish 45 to 75 minutes before dinner; stuffing, sweet potatoes, and rolls finish at 5:00 PM; green beans finish 15 minutes early.
Your own recipes may use different temperatures and times. Enter those numbers in the planner and it will rebuild the day around the serving time you choose.
- Dinner: 5:00 PM
- Oven space: three pans
- Heat-change allowance: 15 minutes
- Five oven dishes across two temperatures
The 4:45 PM handoff is what makes it fit
At 4:45 PM, the green bean casserole comes out and the rolls take its place. Stuffing and sweet potatoes stay in the oven, so it remains exactly at its three-pan limit. Nothing has to wait for a free rack, and the oven never changes temperature during the final 50 minutes.
That handoff is the advantage of building the whole day at once: a small timing decision near dinner determines when the turkey must start hours earlier.
The complete five-dish schedule
Read the schedule from top to bottom while you cook. Every line is an oven action, including the initial heat-up and the temperature change after the turkey comes out.
Key handoff: at 4:45 PM, green beans come out and rolls go in. Three pans remain in the oven, so capacity is never exceeded.
The turkey finishes 65 minutes before dinner. Follow your recipe's resting and holding directions; if it is being hot-held, use a thermometer to verify it stays at or above 140°F. Hold the green beans for their final 15 minutes as the recipe directs.
Common questions
Questions about this cooking plan
When should I start this Thanksgiving dinner?
Heat the oven at 12:10 PM and put the turkey in at 12:25 PM for this exact 5:00 PM example. Your start time changes with your recipes and serving time.
Why can the four sides share one temperature block?
They all use 350°F, and the 4:45 PM handoff keeps no more than three pans in the oven at once.
What if one of my recipes uses a different temperature?
Use the temperature and cook time from that recipe. OvenLineup will place it in a separate block or show you the conflict that needs a decision.
